The old asphalt pavement is
first heated with 2-3 preheating
units. The surface temperature
after the last preheater will be
about 140 °C. Kalottikone
Ltd’s Ecoheater preheaters are
self-propelled remotely controlled
units. The purpose of preheating
is to soften the asphalt
pavement to increase the milling
capacity, to minimize aggregate
crushing in the milling
process and to raise the yield
of old bitumen for remixed material
New asphalt concrete mixture
is unloaded from a truck into
the receiving hopper of the
remixer. Compared to traditional
paving, in the remixing
process the required quantities
of mixture are very small.
The milling unit consists of a
fixed middle drum and a group
of two axially moving drums
for stepless adjustment of the
milling width. The rotation is
hydraulically driven. The milling
depth and cross slope are
controlled hydraulically
through an independent automatic
control. Binder can be
sprayed partially or fully at this
stage for premixing it with the
milled reclaimed pavement.
RoadMix uses a hydraulically
driven continuous twin-shaft
pugmill mixer. The size and
capacity have been specified for
pavement recycling work at a
relatively high working speed.
Needed quantity of binder is
sprayed into the mixer. The
mixture motion is axial.
